Overview

The Director, Specialist Activation – Performance Media leads the activation and execution of paid search and paid social programs across pharmaceutical and healthcare brands. This role partners closely with the Media Strategy and Analytics teams to translate approved media strategies into compliant, high-performing campaigns across biddable platforms. The Director is responsible for activation excellence, campaign optimization, and team leadership while ensuring all programs meet regulatory requirements and deliver measurable business impact.

Key Responsibilities

Performance Media Activation & Platform Leadership

  • Lead the activation and execution of paid search and paid social campaigns across multiple pharmaceutical and healthcare brands.
  • Translate approved media strategies into compliant performance media programs across biddable platforms including Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Meta, TikTok, and Reddit.
  • Oversee campaign setup, launch, pacing, and budget stewardship to ensure flawless execution across all search and social programs.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for campaign structure, naming conventions, taxonomy, tagging, and platform documentation.
  • Guide activation teams on keyword strategy, query mining, audience segmentation, pixel implementation, and conversion tracking.
  • Lead ongoing optimization across bidding strategies, creative testing, placements, audiences, and conversion frameworks.

Cross-Team Collaboration & Client Partnership

  • Partner closely with Media Strategy and Analytics teams to implement performance media programs aligned with broader media plans and business objectives.
  • Provide actionable performance insights that inform campaign optimization and support future media planning.
  • Serve as a senior activation lead in client engagements, communicating performance trends and optimization opportunities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient campaign launches and consistent delivery across brands.

Compliance, Team Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Ensure all paid media programs adhere to FDA, OPDP, and internal MLR regulatory requirements within pharmaceutical marketing environments.
  • Partner with Legal and Regulatory teams to implement compliant activation approaches across branded, unbranded, and disease awareness campaigns.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop paid search and paid social managers and specialists within the Activation team.
  • Build scalable activation workflows, quality assurance processes, and operational standards to support growth across brands and therapeutic areas.

Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years of experience in paid search and/or paid social activation within an agency environment, with demonstrated hands-on expertise in platforms such as Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Meta, TikTok, Reddit, or similar biddable media platforms.
  • Proven experience managing and optimizing campaigns directly within biddable media platforms, including campaign structure, keyword strategy, audience targeting, tagging, and conversion tracking.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing paid media managers, specialists, or activation teams.
  • Experience overseeing complex performance media programs and significant campaign budgets across multiple brands or clients.
  • Experience working with pharmaceutical or healthcare brands, including familiarity with FDA, OPDP, and MLR review processes.
  • Strong understanding of campaign setup, platform optimization techniques, audience segmentation, and performance measurement within search and paid social environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with Media Strategy and Analytics teams to execute performance media programs aligned with broader media plans and business objectives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate performance data into actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills with experience presenting performance updates and optimization strategies to internal stakeholders and clients.
